Meet Seminole Star

Two weeks ago, I had a blank seahorse.  I now have the finished product.  Meet Seminole Star, my seahorse representing the Florida Seminole Indians.  I have tried to represent traditional dress, the animals and birds in their environment, symbols such as sun, moon and stars, clouds, smoke and fire, baskets, fish, bear turkey, blue heron , flying egrets, turtle, nesting and flying eagle, water, sand and seashells.  I also had to duplicate it in miniature!.  It was a challenge, but it is ready to go for it's layers of clearcoat.  This is my first community art project!

  1. Congratulations on being a selected artist and getting a sponsor. Your seahorse is reminiscent of Venus on the Half Shell but with a seminole twist.

    1. Thanks. I must ask, what is Venus on the Half Shell?

  2. I would have just dithered over choices forever! Did you ever think of adding fabric? I'm interested in how you made the decisions you did with what to put on it.

  4. I borrowed library books about the Seminoles and read about Florida history. I tried to pick animals and symbols of their culture. I have the moon, sun fire, a chickee which is the open sleeping platform,a black bear, panther, turkey, eagles, a blue heron, flying egrets, fish, a dugout boat and traditional Seminole dress on men and women. It was a fun project and I am happy with the way it turned out. Thanks for looking.
