Beach Series / From Photo to Fiber

Just finished a very small piece, for me. This one is about 13 inches square and I did not bind it, but did a zigzag stitch edge. I used a strand of pearl cotton under the zigzag, but can't see that it really made any difference. Someone gave this tip on the quiltart list, so thought I'd try it on a small piece. I don't know that I like this edge. I painted white fabric and trapuntoed the shells with a low loft batting. Feedback is welcome.

  1. I really like your new piece! The edge detail looks OK to me, but I know what you mean about a zigzag stitch. I find with most of my pieces, that using a yarn of some sort couched to the edge works nice for a finish. I use clear or matching thread depending on the piece, and have used some really bumpy or fuzzy yarns on some pieces. My favorite is a black, white or ivory yarn with a bit of metalic in them. I choose what will stand out or hide... whichever I want it to do.

  3. Thanks for the feedback. I just painted a canvas to mount this piece on. Now I have to finally get dressed. We are going to fire up the RV and go up to Sunapee for the NH Craftman's Show.

  4. I like this a lot. And I don't think it looks unfinished with the satin stitch edging.
